So Donald Trump paid $750 in federal income taxes in 2016 and 2017? And no taxes at all in ten of the previous 15 years? I am shocked. Shocked, I tell you.

Ain’t the first time we learned something like this:

“That makes me smart.” Apparently, I’m an idiot, then, because I actually complete my 1040 each year honestly, and I’ve paid more than $750 a year in federal income taxes every year since 2008 (when I also didn’t pay any taxes… because I lost my job in the Great Recession).

Mollie Hemingway, Senior Editor at The Federalist, says that Trump is smart about his taxes because everyone does what he does.

If that were true, of course, the federal government would have no tax income whatsoever, which I’m pretty sure isn’t the case.

This is a recording: If any president (or presidential candidate) would have been caught doing this they would have had to resign (or withdraw from the race). This has been a recording. This isn’t going to have a big effect on Trump’s core supporters, of course, even though it demonstrates – yet again – what suckers he thinks they are (I’ll bet most of them pay their taxes honestly).

But it might make a difference to any undecided or independent voters who aren’t exactly enthusiastic about Joe Biden. If you’re an honest taxpayer, how can you not be outraged at the contempt Trump has shown to our country through his tax scheming and cheating? Perhaps this will push them into the Biden column permanently.

36 days until Election Day.
